    Chinese are small people

Cultural Trips to the Chen Clan Ancestral Temple (D: Ahnentempel der Familie Chen) in the West, the Tomb of Zhao Mo, the King of Nanyue (D: Königsgrab von Nanyue) and a Mosque/Muslim Temple in the North of Guangzhou…

Chen Clan Ancestral Temple (Ahnentempel der Familie Chen)

Sunday tour with PPs family to the Chen Clan Academy. This temple was built in the 1890s in memoriam to the name Chen. All Chinese who have the name Chen (which is one of the most common Cantonese family names) got an appeal for funds (D: Spendenaufruf). Colorful roof tiles, impressive yards (D: Höfe) between the buildings, monumental statues, lots of carvings (made with wood, jade, horns, stone, etc.) and handcrafts…

Tomb of the King of Nanyue (Königsgrab von Nanyue)

King Zhao Mo was buried about 2000 years ago, wrapped with more than 1000 small Jade-plates connected with wires – this was a try of mummifying and conserving the Kings body. Zhao Mo built a huge tomb and got buried together with his cooks and several servants, whose bones can be seen in the museum attached. In the tomb there was an own room for worthfully burial objects, weapons, lots of golden objects, handcrafts and jewellery, which can be seen in the museum, too…

The interesting thing was that we were allowed to enter the tomb and the original rooms where the persons and objects have been…

    Mosque / Muslim Temple

In China the mosques are made in the local style of houses / temples. This was a really nice place and building / courts complex – I was there completely alone, had some time to calm down from the hectic street life…
