Local market in a suburb of Guangzhou
Posted on March 12th, 2009 5 commentsShopping tour with PPs mother to the local market
recommendation, but some pictures just for good nerves
I cannot speak Mandarin (Chinese), PPs mother cannot speak English. But anyway she was so friendly to take me with her to the local market where fresh comestibles (D: Nahrungsmittel) and other stuff can be bought: vegetables, fruits, meat, seafood, flavorings / aromatic herbs – and general housekeeping articles like fly swatters or dirty clothes baskets… And, it is necessary to compare comestibles to get the best products and to bargain for ALL goods (also for the already most minimal prices)!
You can buy living and most fresh seafood, chicken and ducklings. They get killed in front of you and prepared for cooking – directly at the standing, the street or whereever; everybody touches the meat, turns and checks to get the best pieces; eyes look at you from a whole calfs head, sellers smoke, money is not handed in to the seller directly – just put on the meat on the table and the seller takes it from there, sellers don’t wash hands after getting the money, smoking or whatever. Hygienic orders just do not exist, and it works too… No problem, after cooking everything is fine again…
Even if it was strange some times, this was a great impression, the smelling, the colors, the visual overkill, the busy activity, the market shoutings…It was a pleasure that she took me with her and that I was able to see Chinas local culture very close – first hand information and feelings… 🙂

Viel Spaß in Shanghai

lg, bis bald
