Masjid Jamek, MoscheeThe last days / weeks I got lots of different impressions – diving in Thailand and Malaysia, dream-beaches, fun and toll-free beers with uncle/brothers/doris, relax-days at dreamy Peherentian Islands and culture in Melaka. What will expect me in this 1.5 million city? Maybe some party life again? Not just this!

Different cultures on one single place, walk the streets from Chinatown to little India, see the Malay quarter. Skyscrapers in the city, food stalls and Chinese shops at the streets, big shopping centers (some of them as big as what i’ve seen in Shanghai) – just imagine: Theme parks with rollercoaster etc. within the shopping mall… wow!

After arriving in KL I started walking around and found a Reggae bar. 2 drinks later I got to know Moe, a nice American medicine student on holiday. He is at home in DC and has more brothers and sisters than me. We were playing pool, rocking the dancing floors, having fun – and we continued this also the next days at other party locations: The streets around Petronas Towers turn into a party zone at night. We consumed some beers and tried the one or other club… Actually, we went there because it was recommended by the travel guide books, but what we didn’t know and the books didn’t tell us was, that depending on the club up to 80 percent of the girls are prostitutes. They haven’t been active or were obvious dancing with different men etc; it just turns out when the clubs are closing at about 3 o’clock – and then you really have to get rid of them…

On day three we wanted to go to Zoe club – as we heard from a local – this is a dance-club, without previous mentioned ladys, just normal guests like you and me, like what we know as a normal club in Europe/America. I went there at about 12, he already entered; and because of the “no slippers” rule of the club I had to talk with the security (cause my other clothes were okay) and he suggested to just get socks from somewhere and come back again. Yes, I really wanted to dress like a propper German tourist, just to get into the club and don’t have to go home again: Searching the neighbor streets, several convenient stores, shops, asking in a hotel etc. and everybody was looking strange at me – just cause of buying socks late at night… After more than one hour of unsuccessful searching, my mood turned and I took a cab back to my hostel instead of entering the club.

But it acutally didn’t turn bad, cause I got to know Ellen while we both were eating the same Roti Canai accidentially. These stupid similarities continued as I got out the next days; it was just strange – often we just have been thinking and acting the same way, we’re similar in planning/organizing, travelling, hobbies, taking risks, being unpredictable and crazy but also straigth forward and goal-oriented, taking big workloads and also having the same kind of fun. Sometimes it was a bit uneartly and at the same time impressive that there exist a person soo similar to you and you get this out within just a few days. I don’t know the definition of soulmate, but I think we are something like that.

Even if the city itself did not get too longlasting visits from me – cause of nightlife, I really enjoyed the few days/nights I spent with my new friends. Together with them I had a really good time, hope to see them again…

After KL I will continue to Kota Kinabalu in Borneo (on the other Malaysian island) to climb the Mount Kinabalu as you can read in my next post.
