Racing competitorsThe later the evening, the more creative the song texts get. But also singing good old Austrian songs about Fuerstenfeld or the grandfather are allowed – as well as Italian Opera and the Watzmann, driving dangerous outdoor-go-cart races, go diving and try lots of delicious food – we can learn so much from our uncle Bert… 🙂

Uncle Bert is a busy businessman, has very less time – but the rare time you spend with him is very funny. Luckily he visited us for a whole weekend at Langkawi and we did lots of exciting stuff…

Starting with a special evening with one of Berts – lets say – friends, who likes to drink not only on (all) evenings. He, and some other people started drinking in the afternoon, we joined in the evening but couldn’t catch up, even if we did a very good job… And after a very short time we found each other singing with other Germans and Austrians songs from Fendrich, STS and co. Sigerl (the nickname we gave to Berts friend) was a German, the owner of a Beach Resort, and not able to speak Austrian dialect – except all conversations from “Der Watzmann” he knew by heart, especially the famous calling for the Gailtalerin. But also at midnight he still was repeating these sentences and hadn’t found her. Another special guy in the round, the “jungle-indianer” (like we called him) was from lower austria and earning his money with guiding jungle tours since years. Late at night some guest show off with their talents in singing Italian Opera – several guys for several voices (D: mehrstimming) or inventing own Gstanzln and never-ending thanksgiving-songs like the title of this blog-entry may already denote. The night ended with the owner of the beergarden going home at midnight and telling us how to switch off the lights when we want to leave later…

Doing go-cart races at an international-competition-outdoor-track on the island was very funny. Especially seeing Sigerl driving off-road like a lawn-mower. Okay, maybe a race at sunset was already too late for him… 😉

Also the diving with Bertl was very exciting, going to Pulau Payar and seeing more than one meter grouper fishes, diving just some meters away where several (baby) sharks can be fed at the peer and baracudas are catching the small fishes. And we found beautiful Nemo’s, lots of them between the colourful soft corals…

Eating at excellent restaurants (Malay, Indian, Chinese, Seafood…) and enjoying the nights at beachbars, beer-gardens and live-reggae-music locations was not just a nice side-program, it actually was a main part of this culturally rich and funny weekend with our uncle… 😉
