After our short stay in Byron Bay we travelled further north. On our way to Rainbow Beach we drove inland to do a track up the Glass House Mountains. As we were already in the area we visited the Australia Zoo, too. With kangaroos and koalas climbing and hopping around right next to you the zoo was an experience worth its money. The crocodiles were encaged though…
What’s really amazing about Australia is its scenic landscape. The roads are endless and from one big town to the next you drive for hours. We stopped by in Mooloolaba, a great spot for surfing, before we finally reached Rainbow Beach. As we live on a budget  (which is very hard in Australia) we usually sleep in our small camper van – it is getting quite cosy in there. As you can imagine, taking cold showers on the beach, cooking your meal on a little gas cooker during heavy winds and finding a nice, hidden spot to sleep (wild camping is illegal here) isn’t the most comfortable way of travelling. But we got used to it and like it.
