We got lost in the outback around the Secret Lake and salt fields: farmers could not really help due to language difficulties, and our compass-app did not work – unfortunately – so we had to continue to smaller and smaller tracks to find a way back to the Green House guest house. By the way – this is a great insider tip for all backpackers, very chilled, friendly owners, a great surrounding and relaxing atmosphere at the smoothly running Kampot River…

Supreme highlights were the well-hidden mysterious White Elephant Caves – head lamps and fearlessness regarding bats and other cave dwellers were a premise! We also drove around the Bokor hills: That had formerly been a huge national park, but now are a privatized mega construction project for a new city in the mountains – including highways, golf courses, casinos as well as luxury hotels. The amount of destruction taking place in the surrounding rain forest really shocked us, especially as in Austria forest protection in the context of global warming is a serious issue…
